about me

My name is Tamar. I’m based in Beeston, Nottingham, and have gardened and arranged flowers since I was a child, much to the frustration of my parents and their peonies.

I have experience working with plants, designing planting schemes for all variety of budgets and conditions, and maintaining gardens with wildlife always at their heart.

I create and sell seasonal floral arrangements from grown and foraged flora, and have flowered weddings and private events.

Aside from more than thirty year’s gardening, studying the Level 2 RHS Certificate in Horticulture through the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has helped to develop my knowledge of botany and practical horticulture.

In addition, I collaborate with local council and community groups on projects to create and develop urban green spaces in my home town. I’m a Trustee of Beeston + District Civic Society, where I advise on greening and environment issues, lead campaigns, and volunteer as their graphic designer.

I am never happier than in nature, or with soil stuck behind my nails, and am lucky enough to have my own garden, which has been part of Beeston and Chilwell Garden Trail since 2024, and an allotment.

We Dig NG9

Established in 2014, We Dig NG9 is a guerrilla gardening and planting project in Beeston. We Dig NG9’s grass verge project won a RHS Community ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ award in 2017. In 2019 it was awarded a Neighbourly grant for clearing and improving the local area via litter picks and community planting.

It includes a large ‘bug squat’, fruit tree, heritage hedgerow, and wildflowers and grass – which is cut only once a year in Autumn.

Most recently, I planted the area around ‘Water Head’ / The Stump public art in Beeston Interchange to improve its setting.

Graphic Design

For more than twenty years I worked at Nottingham’s School of Art & Design. I ran the Colour Bureau (digital graphic arts printing service for students: from high-end laser to large format Giclee prints and print finishing) and, latterly, as one of the in-house graphic designers for School of Art & Design, and the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment – creating Degree Shows’ promotion, School publications, social media content, and branding. I also founded and maintained the complete digital A&D Archive: digital collection of all student work, spanning more than ten years.

I continue to do freelance (and voluntary) graphic design work, primarily for print and socials. Do get in touch with me if you’d like to work together on something.
